Heading off to see the world. By George Mavridis

This a note I wrote to a few friends that I was able to re-connect with after 30 years thanks to technology and social media.

"Thirty years ago I set off on an overseas trip that I thought would last a few months. It turned out into the adventure of a lifetime that lasted sixteen months. I had two birthdays, two Easters and one Christmas and New Year. I travelled to two continents and many countries. I met hundreds of people from many countries, experienced a multitude of different cultures, customs and festivals. I came back with a wealth of knowledge and experiences that would stay with me for the rest of my life. Many of the people I met were just for a few hours, a day or a few days. Some were friendly, others memorable and some I would sooner forget. A few however made lasting impressions on me that I think about all the time. It was a time in my life that was fun, carefree and full of adventure. I did things I would never do again and spent time in places I may never see again, however the memories will never go away. I was to see and experience things I hadn’t seen or done till then and spend time with some amazing people. Somehow many of these experiences and people would shape my thinking and affect the rest of my life. In some way you were a part of that chapter of my life and for that I want to thank you. You are forever weaved into the fabric that is my life."
